Comments? drrobert@idahovet.com Sandpoint Hockey Teams: Currently (2005-2006 Season) Sandpoint boasts three adult hockey teams in each of 3 divisions in Spokane, Washington. The teams are sponsored by: the Power House; Sandpoint West Athletic Club, Sandpoint Title Insurance, and George Stenekes. We appreciate our sponsors and wish to thank them for all the support. In addition to the adults, there are currently several Sandpoint children playing on various Spokane teams (pictured below ). The conditions that allow skating on ponds in our area are rare, but when the weather is right -the kids are ready.
History of the original two teams: In 1997 posters were hung at North Idaho Animal Hospital and at several other locations in the Sandpoint area. The notice said, "anyone interested in hockey, please call". The response was overwhelming. That year, Sandpoint's first hockey team (pictured below) took to the ice for an exhibition season. In 1998, Ralph Sletager with Mark and Sara Clarkston (Power House Bar and Grill) agreed to support the team by purchasing jerseys. And so, the Sandpoint Power House Hockey Team began their first season in the Coeur d'Alene League. After a 4th place finish the first year (1998-1999), the team won the Championship the following season (1999-2000). We thank our supporters and sponsors. We hope to build our Sandpoint Centre Ice Arena soon so that youth and adult hockey, as well as family skating and figure skating, can be enjoyed in our town.
